While living and working in Louisiana, John James Audubon saw no shortage of Yellow-throated warblers. “When they return in the beginning of February, they throw themselves by thousands into all the cypress woods and cane-brakes.” The most Yellow-throated warblers that have since been seen throwing themselves into the cypress woods and what little is left of cane-brakes in Louisiana is 40. Glenn Seeholzer and Maggie MacPherson counted the birds on April 8, 2012, “by canoe. Put in at Stephensville boat launch. Paddled west across north side of flat [Flat Lake]. Followed narrow bayou north to larger river passage which we then took east to the main channel paralleling the levee, which we followed south to the put-in spot (see eBird Checklist S10391385).”
